Privacy Policy

Effective Date: Oct 2, 2025

At Higher Ed AI Lab, we believe in protecting your privacy and respecting your trust. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

1. What We Collect

  • Newsletter subscriptions (Buttondown): We collect your email address when you subscribe. This is used only for sending updates about episodes, research, and Higher Ed & AI news.

  • PDF access (Papermark): Some PDFs require an email address to access. These addresses are used only to deliver the PDF and for limited follow-up related to that resource. They will not be added to our newsletter list unless you explicitly opt in.

  • Website analytics (Webflow Analyze): We use Webflow Analyze to understand how people use our site. It collects aggregate, anonymized data on visits, clicks, and scroll depth using local storage (not cookies). This does not personally identify you.

  • Spotify embeds: Some pages include Spotify players. When loaded or played, Spotify may collect technical information (e.g., IP address, browser, device) and usage data (e.g., playback activity). Spotify controls that data under their own Privacy Policy.

2. How We Use Information

We use your data only to:

  • Provide access to our website and resources.

  • Send newsletters and updates (with your consent).

  • Deliver PDFs and ensure access control.

  • Analyze usage patterns to improve our site.

  • Maintain security and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or profile your data for advertising.

3. Sharing & Third Parties

We share your information only with trusted partners that process it on our behalf and under binding obligations to protect it:

  • Webflow (hosting and analytics).

  • Buttondown (newsletter management).

  • Papermark (PDF access management).

  • Spotify (embedded media, when you interact with it).

We may also disclose information if legally required or to protect against misuse or security threats.

4. Data Retention

  • Emails (newsletter and PDFs) are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

  • Webflow Analyze data is kept in anonymized aggregate form.

  • Server logs are retained only as necessary for security and performance.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you.

  • Correct or update inaccurate data.

  • Request deletion of your data.

  • Withdraw consent at any time (e.g., unsubscribe).

  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if applicable (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA).

To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@higheredailab.com. We will respond within legally required timeframes.

6. Security

We use encryption and industry-standard safeguards to protect your data. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.

7. International Users

Our website is hosted in the United States. If you access it from abroad, your information may be transferred to the U.S. We rely on legally recognized safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for such transfers, as required by law.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data. If we discover such data, we will delete it promptly.

9. Policy Updates

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update this page and, where appropriate, notify subscribers directly.
